A question to all the experts on Dutch ships. I have been reading a lot lately on 17th Century Dutch warships and trying to get as much of overview as I possibly can - not only on the ships, but also on the Dutch Admirals and Zeehelden. I also try to get as much pictorial information on the ships as possible. In that regards the works of Arnold de Lange and Jan Quelery have been particularly helpful. Now my question: Does anybody know anything about the "Rising Sun"? Nowhere does this name appear on the any of the ships' lists of the various battles (that I can find) and I have never heard of this ship before. The topmost emblem on the Spiegel would suggest it is a ship of the Amsterdam Maas. Can anyone help?

Deze wordt omschreven als een jacht. De tekening toont eerder iets in de ordegrootte van de 7Provinciën.
Het afgebeelde schip is waarschijnlijk geen VOC-schip en dus niet in hun database vermeld.

Daar heb je gelijk in Herby, maar een jacht is maar iets kleiner als het kleinste spiegelretourschip, volgens de VOC site.
Alleen het schilderij toont wel een groter schip, dat klopt.
Maar als je in de zoekfunctie Rijzende Zon intypt, krijg je een schip met 60 -66 stukken, en dan kan het weer wel.
